COLLEGIO NUOVO – FONDAZIONE SANDRA E ENEA MATTEI, PAVIA
It is no exaggeration to say that in real measure I owe my success in the field of Italian studies
to the time I spent at the Collegio Nuovo. Not a native speaker of Italian, it was there that I developed true fluency and an understanding of the nuances of Italian and its literature.
At the Collegio Nuovo there blossomed a vivid intellectual life of conferences and rich collegiality.
I remember too the beautiful garden outside my window and the lovely food in the dining hall
in which Italian and international students rejoiced.

Collegio Nuovo hosts 115 Italian and foreign young women who have excelled in the selection procedure, even thanks to the international partnerships signed with prestigious institutions both in Europe and worldwide (from the University of Heidelberg to Barnard College – Columbia University, New York).
A separate residential block houses further 50 male and female students enrolled in postgraduate level studies.
All this has been possible also thanks to the generosity of Sandra Bruni Mattei, a far-sighted industrial entrepreneur, who founded the Collegio Nuovo in 1978.
