The Foundation Collegio Universitario S. Caterina da Siena inaugurated the academic year 2010-2011, its new Biomedical University Residence, situated in the heart of Pavia’s scientific centre, a body created specifically for students (both male and female) who follow courses in the biomedical field.
The building is brand new, constructed in order to render study and student life as pleasant as possible with the students being accommodated in single rooms each with en suite facilities, air conditioning, free Internet access and a weekly cleaning service. Each unit of six rooms is furnished with a fully equipped kitchen with hobs, a cooker, a refrigerator and a dishwasher for the preparation and consumption of meals. The students are covered with emergency medical care and have full access to all the communal spaces available in the Residence (including a chapel, a study room, a library, a computer room, a music room, a television room, a games room, a newspaper library, a gym and a garden) and to the washing machine service paid for with tokens.
Above and beyond the habitual cultural activities that the Foundation arranges annually for the students of Collegio Universitario S. Caterina (situated in Via San Martino 17/B) the students in the Residence will be able to follow cultural events organised specifically for them by the Residence’s Director and a scientific committee composed of university lecturers.
The Residence is to be found on its own campus. In the surrounding area there are other colleges and university residences, there are also sports grounds and various other green spaces, and the students are able to use all the facilities to be found in the University of Pavia’s new sports complex including various gyms and pools; nearby can be found Pavia’s major public health organisations and all the science faculties. It is also an area which is close to the historic centre of Pavia, which is well serviced by public transport and which is connected to the centre by a network of cycle paths.
